Zodiac Sign Calculator

Find your Sun sign from your date of birth. We calculate the Sun's actual position on the day you were born, using the tropical zodiac followed by Western astrology.

Birth time matters only if you were born on the day the Sun changes sign. Your device's time zone is used for the calculation.

The 12 zodiac signs and their dates

The start and end dates move by about a day from year to year, because the calendar year and the Sun's yearly path are not exactly the same length. The calculator above uses the exact moment for your birth year.

How this calculator works

Your Sun sign is the part of the zodiac the Sun was passing through when you were born. The tropical zodiac used in Western astrology starts at the March equinox (0° Aries) and divides the Sun's yearly path into twelve 30° signs. We compute the Sun's ecliptic longitude for your birth date from standard astronomical formulas, accurate to within a few minutes of time, so people born on a "cusp" day get the correct sign once they add a birth time.

Thai and Indian (Vedic) astrology use the sidereal zodiac, which is currently about 24° behind the tropical one. That is why a person who is Aries in Western astrology is often Pisces in Thai astrology. Our Thai zodiac section follows the Thai system.

Frequently asked questions

What if I was born on the first or last day of a sign?
Enter your birth time. The Sun changes sign at a specific minute, which differs from year to year, so the time decides which sign is yours.
Does the time zone matter?
Only for cusp days. The calculator uses the time zone of the device you are using; if you were born somewhere else, use a birth time converted to your current time zone.
Is this my rising sign or Moon sign?
No. This is your Sun sign, the sign most horoscopes refer to. Rising and Moon signs need your exact birth time and place.
