Lo Shu Grid and Kua Number Calculator

The Lo Shu is the ancient Chinese magic square in which every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. Lo Shu numerology places the digits of your date of birth on this grid to show your strengths and gaps, and the Kua number from feng shui's Eight Mansions school gives your lucky directions.

The traditional Kua number uses a different formula for men and women. Nothing you enter is stored.

How the Lo Shu grid works

The Lo Shu square places the numbers 1 to 9 so that every line adds up to 15:

492
357
816

Write every digit of your date of birth (day, month and year, ignoring zeros) into its square. Repeated digits strengthen that quality, empty squares show areas to develop, and complete lines ("planes") show natural talents. The driver number comes from your day of birth and the conductor number from your whole date of birth.

The Kua number

The Kua number comes from your year of birth in the Chinese solar calendar, which begins around 4 February. Add the digits of the year until one digit remains, then subtract it from 11 (male formula) or add 4 (female formula), reducing again if needed. Kua 5 becomes 2 for men and 8 for women. Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9 belong to the East group; 2, 6, 7 and 8 to the West group.
