How mole reading works

In the Thai tradition the meaning of a mole depends mostly on where it is, and sometimes on which side of the body it is on. Several different Thai collections exist, and they do not always agree; where they differ, our pages give the most common reading and mention the alternative. A mole is read as one sign among many, never as a fixed fate.

Some sayings were written for women in particular, such as signs about marriage and family; we include these where they are still meaningful today.

Moles and your health

Mole reading is for entertainment and self-reflection. If a mole is new, or changes in size, shape or colour, has an uneven edge, itches or bleeds, please have it checked by a doctor or dermatologist. Never remove a mole for luck; removal is a medical decision.

Mole reading FAQ

Which moles are considered lucky?
In Thai readings, moles in the middle of the forehead, on the bridge or tip of the nose, in the palms, on the throat, in the centre of the chest and just above the navel are among the most fortunate, linked with success, wealth and respect.
Does the side of the body matter?
Sometimes. For example, a mole on the right shoulder and one on the left shoulder have quite different meanings. Each page notes the side where it matters.
Is a mole reading the same in every culture?
No. Chinese, Indian and Thai traditions each have their own maps. These pages follow the Thai tradition.
