The Oraculum: book of fate

The Oraculum is a 19th-century European oracle book that became popular in Thailand in translation. You choose one of 32 set questions, make five marks, and whether each mark is odd or even gives one of 32 patterns. The question and the pattern together point to a single answer from a table of 1,024. In Thailand the same table is used with dice, dominoes and incense sticks.

How to cast

Hold the question in mind as you cast. Odd numbers count as one mark, even numbers as two. Nothing you enter is stored.

How the Oraculum works

In the classic method you draw five rows of short strokes without counting, then count each row: an odd number gives one mark and an even number two. Five rows give 32 possible patterns, the same number as the questions. A key table pairs each question with each pattern to choose one answer, so every question has its own 32 answers, from encouraging to cautionary. Dice, dominoes, coins or sticks of incense work just as well, as long as each throw comes out odd or even.

About this English edition

This version is translated from the Thai edition used on horoall.com, which keeps the structure of the old book. We have modernised the wording, made the love questions neutral, and replaced a few traditional answers that judged people by their looks with advice about character. Where the Thai table has a gap, the oracle asks you to try again another day.
