This calculator transliterates your name into the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, adds up their traditional values (gematria) and links the result, and your date of birth, to the ten sefirot of the Tree of Life.

How it works

Hebrew letters double as numbers: Aleph to Tet are 1 to 9, Yod to Tsade are 10 to 90, and Qof to Tav are 100 to 400. Adding the letters of a word gives its gematria. Because English names are written in a different alphabet, we first transliterate by sound using a common table: SH = Shin, TH = Tav, TZ/TS = Tsade, CH/KH = Chet, PH = Pe, O/U/W/V = Vav, I/J/Y = Yod, C/K = Kaf, X = Kaf + Samekh.

The ten sefirot are the qualities on the Tree of Life, from Keter at the top to Malkuth at the base, joined by 22 paths that match the 22 letters.
