Nine Star Ki Calculator
Nine Star Ki (Kyusei Kigaku) is a Japanese system based on the Lo Shu magic square and the five elements. Your principal star comes from the year you were born, counted from Risshun, the start of spring around 4 February, so people born in January or early February belong to the previous year. Your month star shows your inner nature, and the stars moving through the nine palaces each year describe the timing of your life.

Nine Star Ki took its modern form in Japan in the 1920s, drawing on the Chinese Lo Shu square and the I Ching trigrams. Each year one star sits in the centre of the square and the others “fly” through the eight directions in a fixed order; the palace your own star lands in describes the year for you.
